Richard S. “Dick” Thomas, of Burlington Township, died Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Samaritan Hospice Inpatient Facility, in Mt. Holly, at the age of 92. Mr. Thomas was born in Burlington and remained a lifelong resident. He was a lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Church.

He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, the Thaddeus Kosiuszko Club, the All Saints Senior Citizens Club and the Burlington Township VFW, all in Burlington. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War Two where he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations during the battles for New Guinea and the South Philippines.

He received several awards for his service including the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Arrowhead. After the war, he worked for 35 years at the John A. Roebling Steel Company as a roll grinder and a wire drawer.

Husband of the late Angela (nee Siminski), he is survived by his children, Richard C. (Francine), of Elkridge, MD, Donald (Karyn), of Lawrenceville, GA, Christina (Scott) Petty, of Pittsboro, NC, and Kenneth (Kathleen), of Mantua, his grandchildren, Rebecca, Jesse, Jaime, Alex, Emily, Madison and Kenny, his great grandchildren, Cecily, Robert, Garrett and Olivia, and his brother, Edwin, of Medford Lakes and sister, Irene McCall, of Harrisburg, PA.
