Richard DeGroot, 60, passed away May 28, 2013 from a tragic accident at his home in Canon City, Colorado. He was born on September 13, 1952 in Spokane, WA to Iva (Richards) and William DeGroot. Richard married his high school sweetheart, Diana Lynn McGovern. They graduated from high school on Monday, the 24th of May and married the 28th day of May, 1971. He passed away on their 42nd wedding anniversary and his mother’s birthday. Richard was drafted into the Air Force and served four years as Security Police at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. He then retired after 27 years with the Colorado Department of Corrections. He had one crazy accident too many and lived his life always on the edge. Mr. DeGroot is survived by his wife, Lynn; daughters, Lori, Tammy, and Julie (Dave) Hughes; grandchildren, Jessica and Emily Hughes, and Derrick Chambers; his father, Bill; brothers, Billy (Tammy), and Gary (Kristen); and sisters, Barbie (Jim) Biggs and Ivy (Pat) Bryon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Iva.
