Richard R. “Dick” Triest, age 84, of St Charles, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2013 at his home in Saint Charles surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 24, 1929 in Chicago, the son of Raymond and Minnie (DesCourouez) Triest.

After graduating from Hyde Park High School, Dick attended University of Chicago. He went on to serve his country in the Korean Conflict as a 13th Engineer. He was a volunteer fireman for Saint Charles for 20 years. Dick owned and operated Ray’s Evergreen Tavern in Saint Charles for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed many hobbies which included Rolle Bolle at Ray’s, bowling in two leagues – Moline’s and Ray’s, playing on a softball team for Ray’s, Pigeon Flying with St. Charles Pigeon Flying Club, fishing in Canada and Minnesota.  He enjoyed traveling rarely missing spring training in Arizona to see his beloved Cubs, or a quick trip to the UP for fishing and relaxation.  Besides the Cubs, Dick was a big fan of all Chicago teams.

He is survived by his sister Barbara (Phil) Baert of St Charles; nieces and nephews Michael Baert of Genoa, Michelle Ackmann of Hampshire, Daniel (Sue) Baert of Cortland, Anthony (Lori) Baert of Sycamore, Elizabeth (Pete) Morgano of Dekalb and Julie (Dan) Jones of Dekalb; 17 great nieces and nephews; and many dear cousins and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.

Speaking for Dick, we would like to thank Seasons Hospice and especially his nieces and nephews for all the laughs, compassion, companionship and their loving care during his illness.
