Richard Payne Atkins, 67, of 222 Clarkson St., Danville, died Friday, March 26, 2010 in Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC. Born September 1, 1942 in South Boston, he was the son of the late John Payne Clark and the late Sarah Conner Clark. He was a member of Community Baptist Church and was a dedicated and faithful Christian servant. He was a humble servant of Christ and won many souls for the Lord. He was a trustee of the church, a Sunday School teacher and former chairman of the board of Southall Baptist Church. He was CEO of Just Kids Child Development Center. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He was married to Katherine Cochran Atkins of the residence. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Rhonda A. Worrell and husband, Mike of Ringgold, two sisters, Jean McCormick and husband, David and Gail Emerson, all of South Boston and several nieces and nephews.
