Richard Paul Montoya, 49, died at 12:33 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2016 at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in 1967, the first child of Kae Sanchez and Richard Montoya. He has been a lifelong resident of Albuquerque.
Richard graduated from Highland High School in 1985. Shortly after graduation he began a long career driving semi-trucks. He was dedicated to his job and to his co-workers. Although the hours were long and the job difficult, he could not imagine doing anything else.
Richard enjoyed a tight knit group of friends. He was well known for his sharp wit and unique sense of humor. He enjoyed games and would play board and video games often. Richard kept in touch with many friends through gaming.
Richard was preceded in death by his aunt, Phyllis Ann (Nan) Van Winkle; uncles, John Paul Van Winkle and Ernest Montoya; cousin, Karen Will; and grandparents, Phyllis and Delmar Van Winkle, Jesus and Leonides Montoya, and Charles and Mary Sanchez.
Richard is survived by his parents, Kae Sanchez and husband, Paul, and Richard Montoya and wife, Terry; brothers, Marc Montoya and wife, Le Dawn, Keith Sanchez and wife, Abigail, and Adam Montoya; sister, Rachel Montoya; nieces, Madison Montoya and Lorelei Sanchez; nephews, Lane and Isaac Montoya and Adrian Sanchez; many uncles, aunts, and cousins; and many friends.
