Richard O’Connell, 78, of Middletown, beloved husband for 28 years of Joanne (Creed) O’Connell passed away on Monday, September 29th at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Springfield, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Anna B. (McFarlane) O’Connell. Richard lived in Middletown since 1978, graduated Classical High School in Springfield, MA, was a brick layer from 1948 to 1951, served during the Korean War in the US Marines Corp, then went back to work as a brick layer for 28 years and in 1980 he graduated from Otero Junior College in LaTjunta, CO. He was an Alcohol and Drug Counselor for 19 years at CT Valley Hospital retiring in 1996 and was a devoted member of AA for 33 years. Besides his wife, he is survived by two step daughters, Elizabeth Cavanagh and Christine McCune; a brother, William O’ Connell of Springfield, MA; two sisters, Burness Felici and Shirley Ballard, both of Springfield; four beautiful step grandchildren, Rachael, Cortney, Alessi, Cameron and Joseph and many nieces and nephews.
