Richard Melvin Travis, 90 of Thornton, Went To Meet The Lord, on November 25, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born in Thornton, March 29, 1926, son of the late Earl Travis and Nora Goff Travis. Melvin is survived by his wife Frances Lucille Bolyard Travis; they were married March 25, 1951.
He enjoyed being outdoors, farming, gardening and talking to his many friends. He never met a stranger. He was a lifelong member of the Thornton United Methodist Church where he served as superintendent, and did whatever was needed. Melvin worked at the Hazel Altas, Thornton Brick Yard, and WV Plastic (BabyWorld).
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one special nephew and wife, Jim Gragg and wife Rose, Thornton, two nephews, Harold Wayne Travis, Vienna, Jack Travis and wife Karen, West Union; one niece, Mary Shipp, Thornton; two great nephews, Billy Gragg and wife Heather, Scott Gragg; one great niece, Jennifer Detamore and fiancé, Brody Mayle; eleven great great nephews and nieces, Adien Gragg, Garrett Gragg, Hannah Gragg, Evangeline Gragg, William Gragg, Katelyn Detamore, and Hunter Detamore and many cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded death by two brothers, William Travis and Clyde Travis; one sister, Mildred Gragg.
The family would like to thank WV Caring “Hospice” for all their kindness to Melvin.
