Richard (Buck, Dick) Lyndon Lord passed in peace at the age of 84 on December 30, 2020.
He was a loving father of Dr. Richard Lord, PhD (and his wife Yoshie), David Lord, and Sarah Beall (and her husband Morgan), proud grandfather of Andrew and Rebecca Beall, and great grandfather of Sophia Beall.
Dick Lord was born in Muscatine, Iowa on September 29, 1936; the only child of Andrew and Etta (Winsell) Lord.
He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1954 and the University of Iowa, with a degree in civil engineering in 1958 and a master’s degree in environmental engineering in 1969. He married Sarah Childs on June 15th, 1958. They have had a long and loving marriage of 62 years.
Dick began working at Stanley Consultants, an engineering firm in Muscatine, while attending the university, and after graduation, worked there for 30 years, rising to senior vice president. He transferred to Atlanta in 1974 as the head of the operations group for the new office. Later, Dick went to work for Parsons Consulting based out of Atlanta.
In his career, he conducted engineering projects throughout the world, from West Africa, to the Middle East, to Southeast Asia. Dick had an insatiable appetite for travel, and spent most of his vacations touring the globe with his wife. He and Sally made two trips around the world on TWA. He introduced his children and grandchildren to most of the National Parks in the United States, and many in other countries. Dick always said, “The world is like a book. If you stay home you’ve only read the first page.” He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts and with numerous voluntary church organizations.
Dick and his wife have lived in Hoschton, GA since 2016, where he was a member of the Buford First Methodist Church.
