Richard Liscano Cortez, “Baby Cortez”, 71 of Oxnard entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from natural causes.  Richard was born on April 5, 1949 in McAllen, Texas into a large family of 11 siblings, with him being the “Baby” of the bunch.

Richard’s younger years began in Texas building childhood memories until one day in 1962, his parents; Celso and Maria Cortez packed the family up with one truck full of furniture and a couple of kids in the back of the truck (when it was legal to ride in the back of truck beds) and another vehicle with the rest of the family.  A long journey leading them to settle in La Colonia, of Oxnard, California when there were no roads and it was all dirt at the time.  A new world, and a new start.

As he got older, Richard found a love for mechanics and cars, low riders to be exact.  The proud owner of a 1965 Chevy Impala that he bought himself, he could be found cruising around Oxnard playing his jams.  Richard was so good at mechanics that he was privileged to have landed a job at the Naval Construction Battalion Center (CBC) Port Hueneme at the age of 16 where he worked until he retired.  Richard was thankful for that job as it kept him out of trouble and was able to provide for his family.

Richard enjoyed time with family and friends, going camping, park bbq’s, dances, fishing and if there was food and music, he was there.  Richard had a joking attitude, was a good friend and could tell stories of his many adventures in his life that will be truly missed.

Richard is survived by his wife; Angie Denofra Cortez, his son’s; Richard and wife Jennie Cortez, Ruben and wife Delia Cortez and Rudy and wife Erica Cortez. His daughter’s Joanne and husband Lorenzo Gutierrez, Abigail Cortez, his son-in law; Bryce Alfaro, his grandchildren; Maya, Alexus, Richie, RJ, Anika, Rudy, Serenity, Jayden, Jon Jon, Mady, Mayalina, Samantha, Isaiah, Sophia and Mikayla, his brother Leo and sisters Jane and Elia.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; Celso and Maria Cortez, his brothers; Frank, Robert, Fred, and Celso and his sisters; Pauline, Adelfa, and Irma.
