Richard Lavern Phillips life journey began on September 29, 1945 in Mobile, AL to the proud parents of Johnny and Lizzie Mae Phillips. He was welcomed into the gates of heaven on Friday July 2, 2021.
In 1963, Richard graduated from Harper High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football and a star basketball player.
He was a member at Little Burrah Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by Rev. Willie Griffin. Richard later joined Pilgrims Hope Baptist Church in Los Angeles, California.
Richard worked at Brookley Air Base in Mobile, AL after leaving the state of AL he relocated to Los Angeles, California. He met and married Norma Jean George and to this union was born one beloved son Richard Lavern Phillips. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and later pursued a career as an electrician by attending El Camino College . Richard was an outstanding electrician and was privileged to be employed as a Foreman with several well known companies in Los Angeles such as CT&F . Also a General Contractor for the city of Los Angeles prior to retirement.
Richard met his soulmate Mary L Hargrove- Fox on May 21, 1977 and married May 21, 2020 after 43 years. Richard enjoyed traveling the country and enjoying life with Mary. He loved his family and his devotion was shown at the Knights and Hargrove Family Reunions. He also had a passion for fishing and would go to the lakes or long fishing trips.
Preceding him in death were his parents , the late Johnny and Lizzie Mae Phillips; one sister, Nellie Ann Smith; three brothers, Johnny Phillips Jr, Naveed Elahi- Bey and Leo Phillips.
Richard leaves to cherish his memories , and celebrate his life ; his loving, devoted, and caring wife , Mary Fox- Phillips of North Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Richie L Phillips of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter, Michele Davis of Phoenix, Arizona; one step- daughter, Alisa Fox-Ervin of North Las Vegas, Nevada; two grandsons, Quentin and Tyrell Griffin ; one step- grandson, Christian Ervin of Buena Park, CA; two sisters, Elizabeth Joseph and Brendalyn Phillips of Texas; five brothers, Gregory Phillips of Portland, Oregon, Prentice Phillips of Atlanta , Georgia, Nathaniel (Pam) Phillips of Hollywood,CA, Marshall Phillips of Whistler, AL, George Phillips of Eight Mile, AL; one sister in law, Helen Phillips of Mobile, AL; devoted caregiver, Aretha Crawford of North Las Vegas, Nevada; and a host of relatives and friends.
