Richard Lee Getz, 73, of Pomfret, MD., passed on November 12, 2020 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Richard was born on March 8, 1947 in Grafton, West Virginia, to the late Robert and Maxine Getz of Titusville, Florida as their oldest son.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Morgan.

Soon after graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam.  After his military service, he began a career working for the District of Columbia as a police officer in 1969.  He attended American University obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Administration with a minor in History.  He later retired after 30 years of service having achieved the rank of Sergeant.

Richard, after having been widowed from his first wife, Nancy, in 1997 after 30 years of marriage; he remarried in 1999 to Pok Sun (Sandy) whom he was married to at the time of his death.

Over the years, Richard was an avid hunter, enjoyed cooking and talking about U.S. and World history.  He loved his family, church and country. His devotion to his family was displayed each and every day.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of La Plata where he spent time as a deacon and working on various improvement committees.

Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years, Pok Sun Getz (Benton), his daughters Kimberly Gregory (Jay), Pamela Robey (Jeff), step-children Stephen Benton (Carolyn), Susan Lusby (Wes), Kimberly Benton, and a brother Robert Getz (Mary) and 10 grandchildren.
