Richard L. “Dick” Myers, 64, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
He was born November 26, 1946 in Jacksonville; the son of Howard and Dorothy Behl Myers. He married Stephanie Ridder on June 26, 1976 at the Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville and she survives.
He is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Gillis of Jacksonville; two sons, Brian L. Myers (fiancé, Cassidy Long) of Jacksonville and Chad F. Myers (wife, Lorratta) of Arenzville; a daughter, Crystal J. Myers of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Gracen, Tyson and Layken Myers, all of Jacksonville, Gabby Myers of Arenzville, and Peyton Fry of Jacksonville; two brothers, Loren Myers (wife, Judy) of Jacksonville and Brad Gillis (wife, Geri) of Jacksonville; two sisters, Mary Cosgriff (husband, Jim) of Fosterburg and Virginia Gregory (husband, Bob) of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; his step father, Clifford Gillis Jr.; three brothers, Ron Carter, Chuck Myers, and Raymond Carter; and three sisters, Lillian Wooldridge, Kathleen Fitzsimmons, and Janet Deming.
Mr. Myers was a 1965 graduate of Routt High School and attended Rankin Technical School in St. Louis, MO. He has been employed as a residential care worker at Illinois School for the Deaf for many years. He also owned and operated Dick Myers Signs from 1988 to 2006. He was a member of Our Saviour Parish and the Knights of Columbus #868. He was an avid race fan and former speedway competitor where he was known as “Super”. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
