Richard L. Kehner Jr., age 76, passed away in Payson, Arizona after a lengthy illness. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the only child of the late Richard L. Kehner Sr., who died in 1945 in service during WWII. The late Alice H. (Lutey) (Kehner) Anderson was his mother.
Richard was raised in the Portage Lakes, Ohio area by his mother Alice and step-father John E. Anderson. Many happy days were spent on the lake with swimming, boating and water skiing. He participated in ski shows on the East Shore of Turkeyfoot Lake and specialized in Barefoot Skiing.
He attended Manchester Schools (class of 64) in Akron and the Kentucky Military Institute. At the age of 17 he joined the US Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. Stationed at Coronado in San Diego, California, he tuned into the California lifestyle after his Navy service. He made his living as an electrician and artist making custom spool tables for the elite in the LaJolla and Chula Vista areas. Later he became a long distance truck driver with North American, Budweiser, and Safe Way. The love of his life was also his long distance truck co-driver, former wife Cyndy (Hemmer) (Kehner) Eisenhart.
One of the first “Rent a Husband” home repair companies was started by Richard back in the 90’s. After retirement he moved to his current home in the mountains of Arizona. There he kept company with his rescued kitty cats.
Richard is survived by his half brother Gerald E. Anderson of North Canton, Ohio, and half sister Amy (Anderson) Joy of Louisville, Kentucky. In addition are surviving Aunt Bette (Lutey) Roche of Bethel, Ohio; nieces Julie (Anderson) Bickis, Em Joy, Ashley (Adams) Miller, Erin Adams, and nephew Cameron Joy; many cousins living in the California and Ohio areas, and one Kehner cousin, Cindy Houk, of Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents and stepfather, his Aunt Dorothy (Lutey) and Edward Kirstahler Sr. of Coronado who mentored him, Uncle Elwood and Grace Lutey of Medina, OH and dear cousin Susan (Kirstahler) Baker.
