Richard L. “Dick” Shoup, 82, of Culpeper, VA, formerly of Campbell Avenue, Emlenton, died at 4:28 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at Culpeper Regional Hospital.
Mr. Shoup was born on September 4, 1926 in Alum Rock, Richland Twp., Clarion County. He was the son of William and Helen Kaiser Shoup.
He was of the protestant faith. Mr. Shoup was a US Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of the American Legion Post #10 in Manassas, Virginia. He was a Mason for more than 50 years. He was employed for 35 years as a senior purchasing agent for Gulf Oil Company, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Shoup enjoyed tinkering around his home and took pride in maintaining his home and vehicles. He enjoyed hunting and had been an avid gun collector.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy E. Anderson Shoup, who died November 21, 1995.
He is survived by a son Mark W. Shoup and his wife Sandy of Manassas, VA, and a grandson, Airman 1st-Class Mark W. Shoup Jr., Shepard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. A brother and his wife survive, Jack M. and Faith Shoup of West Mifflin. Mr. Shoup is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
