Muncie – Richard L. “Dick” Hirst, 68, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at his residence following an extended illness.
Richard was born in Muncie on September 7, 1942, the son of Horace and Dessie (Townly) Hirst and attended Muncie Central High School.
Mr. Hirst worked for Frank’s foundry, before going to work for Johnny Morris Chevrolet where he worked for over twenty years until his retirement in 1994. Richard raced stock cars for many years with his good friend Larry McNees.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patti Hirst, Muncie; a son, Mark Hirst, (wife-Cheryl), Muncie; a daughter, Teresa Poor, (husband-Joe), Muncie; six grandchildren, Jordan, Jaydan and Jace Hirst, John and David Kennedy, and Kristen Poor; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bobby Hirst, (wife-Lucy), Chidester, Arkansas, Chuck Hirst, Muncie, and Mike Hirst, (wife-Mona) Camden, Arkansas; four sisters, Linda Goodman, (husband-Amos), Hartford City, Bonnie Roberts, (husband-Paul), Muncie, and Debbie Barksdale, Sparkman, Arkansas; and Carolyn Wilson, (husband-Mike), Yorktown; several nieces and nephews; and his buddy, Max.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Margaret Heatherly.
