Richard J. Riedel, age 82, of Rome, passed away January 15, 2012.

He was born January 3, 1930, in Rome, a son of Frank J. and Frances Mautner Riedel and educated in Rome schools. Richard was united in marriage to the former Patricia Shanley on October 19, 1957, in St. Peter’s Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and served in Korea.

Dick was employed in his early years in the family business, Riedel’s Dairy. He then was a United States Mail Contractor carrying mail to the Post Offices between Utica and Lowville, for many years and ended his working career as a mechanic for Birnie Bus Company for almost 20 years, retiring in 2002.

Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia; three children, Dr. Margaret Satterlee of Baldwinsville, Timothy Riedel and wife, Amy of Centennial, CO, John Riedel and wife, Suzanne of Dover, MA; five grandchildren, Molly Riedel, J. P. Riedel, Emily Riedel, Griffin Satterlee and Zachary Satterlee; a sister, Susan McDaniel and husband, Thomas of Lake of the Woods, VA; three brothers, Donald Riedel and wife, Doris, Raymond Riedel and wife, Arlene, and Wayne Riedel and wife, Beverly, all of Rome; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would especially like to thank Dick’s friend and neighbor, Roger Pereto for all the help he has given to Dick over the last 8 years.
