Richard James Koenig, 81, of Pasadena, passed away Sunday December 1st at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
He was born in Natrona, PA, son of the late Edward John Sr. and Marie Gertrude (Schrott) Koenig.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 52 years, Constance E. (Misczak) Koenig, sons Christopher (Rebecca) R. and Michael J. (Dawn), a daughter Kathleen A. Koenig-Stoffel (Kirk), grandchildren Alexandria, Jared, Madeline, Lilly, Emma, Josephine and Benjamin; a brother Edward J. Koenig, Jr. (Peggy) of Erie, PA, a sister Mary Bernadette Parker (Thomas) of Sarver, PA, sisters-in-law Carol Koenig of Natrona, PA and Debbie Koenig of Hollidaysburg, PA, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Robert J. Koenig and Martin P. Koenig.
Richard was a 1956 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Natrona, PA. He joined the Air Force and afterwards was with the Department of Defense in the Philippines and Norway. Upon returning to the States, he married his high school sweetheart, began an over 25-year career with the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, MD and raised a family.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was always an active sportsman. He was a state archery champion, an avid hunter, a loyal member of the Stoney Creek Rod & Gun Club; was a starter on a medal-winning Senior Olympics softball team and enjoyed swimming and other athletic activities at the local YMCA. Richard was a devoted parishioner at St. Jane Frances church and a dedicated fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team and Pittsburgh Penguins hockey club.
