Richard J. Case, 95, formerly of Williamsport, died Sunday, July 17, 2011, surrounded by his family at the home of his daughter, Trinka, in Mechanicsburg.

Dick was a retired Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marines having served as a local recruiter and a Drill Instructor. He also retired from the State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation as a Supervisor. He was a member of the former Newberry United Methodist Church, Post Royal Lodge #242 Free & Accepted Masons in Port Royal, South Carolina, the Williamsport Consistory, the Williamsport Shrine Club, Zafar Grotto, was Worthy Patron for the Order of the Eastern Star and a past Grand Royal Patron for the Order of the Amaranth. He was a life member of the Williamsport Marine Corp League, Korean War Veteran’s and the Non-Commissioned Officer’s Assoc. He was also a member of the Marine Corp Drill Instructor Assoc.

Born October 19, 1915, in Williamsport, he was the son of Joseph N. and Mildred Duffield Case.

Dick was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, the former Lillian Loveland in 1991, his sister Alice Joyce and three brothers, Arthur, Lee and David.

While assigned as a Marine Recruiter in the 1950’s he began raising the American flag at the Little League World Series at the Original Field on West Fourth Street and continued the tradition participating in the ceremony at Lamade Field as a member of the Marine Corp League.

Surviving are his daughters, Ann Case and Trinka (David) Hinaman, both of Mechanicsburg and two grandchildren, Rebecca (Richard) Foster of Portsmouth, VA and Erin Hinaman of Mechanicsburg.
