Richard Jay Burnham, age 87, passed away August 29, 2013 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Richard was born November 9, 1925, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the son of Claude and Dorothy Randall Burnham. He was a lifelong area resident and had served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. Richard was employed with The Upjohn Company for 35 years prior to his retirement. Following retirement he volunteered with the American Red Cross in Disaster Relief and Veteran Affairs.
He also volunteered with the Salvation Army Bell Ringers for many years and was the leader of “Dicks Ding-a-lings”. Richard was a longtime member of the Westwood United Methodist Church. On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Barclay who preceded him in death on August 13, 2005.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and by four siblings, Donald and Claude Burnham, Pauline Carpenter and Vivian Bentley-Smith. Surviving are three children, Susan Russell Stahr of Kalamazoo, Helen Seymoure of Phoenix, AZ and Scott Burnham of Kalamazoo; two grandsons, Jay Michelle Seymoure and Brent Seymoure; two great-grandchildren, Stevie and Weston; nieces and nephews.
