Richard “Ricky” Ian Moity, age 61, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 5:22pm he succumb to sarcoma cancer. Mr. Moity was born in New Orleans and was a lifelong resident of Chalmette. He is survived by his mother, Janet Sandison Moity, 3 daughters, Gwen Nolan, Loryn Camet and Blayre Moity and his 4 grandchildren, Madelynn, Deborah Day, Cordellya, and Deborah Ruthann, Brother, Glenn Moity and sister, Carolyn Little and nieces and nephews. His father, Joseph Moity, preceded him. He was a loving and devoted son, father and grandfather, who proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for 14 years. He was a graduate of Chalmette High School Class of 69. He was very involved in the community, and a member and Commander of the Disabled Veterans of Louisiana Chapter 4 and Past Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 36. He was the business manager for the DAV and Trustee for the Boilermakers Local 37. Richard was elected to Board of Trustees, after which he was elected President of Boilermaker local 37. Richard was appointed to Business Manager, elected to Secretary Treasurer and the Trustee for the Mississippi River District for two terms. He was dedicated and did an excellent job for the members and worked with dignity. He worked with his father and the Disabled Veterans of Louisiana to build the Pearl Harbor Park and maintain the American flag on Paris Rd. He loved his family and country. He enjoyed serving the veterans, riding his motorcycle, playing pool, supporting the Tulane Booster Club and airplanes. He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
