Dick: May the Road Rise Up to Meet You

Richard (Dick) Hugh McDevitt died peacefully on August 3, 2021, in Fort Pierce Florida with his wife and children by his side. A huge clap of thunder opened the gates of heaven as he passed.

Dick was born in November of 1936 in Bay Ridge Brooklyn to Mary and Francis McDevitt (deceased). He attended Cathedral Prep and Power Memorial High Schools in New York City and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree (1958) from Iona College in Westchester New York.

Dick’s survivors include his loving wife Roselie, and his children; Richard McDevitt (wife Mary), Nancylynn McDevitt (husband Richard Means), and Sue Ann McDevitt, Vincent Kenney, and Dona Funches. Dick was proud of his nine grandchildren: Rebecca, Liam, Matthew, Christopher, Stephany, Clifton Richard, Thomas Joseph, Mclaine, and Elli. Dick is also survived by two brothers (Matthew from California and Peter from North Carolina) and one sister (Susan from North Carolina).

Dick was a Certified Public Accountant and worked for international public accounting firms in that capacity. In later years he held positions as Chief Financial Officer in several public companies. He belonged to several accounting organizations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of CPAs.

Dick was very social. He participated in many social organizations, like the First Friday Club, and not-for-profit organizations, like the Wild Geese. He loved boating and served as a board member and flag officer in Huguenot Yacht Club in New York and later in New Bern Yacht Club in North Carolina (where he also served as Commodore). In addition, the MH Downhill Ski Team was near and dear to his heart.

Dick loved his family, his boats, traveling, Broadway musicals, and spy novels. He made a mean Martini and the greatest Blood Mary, so raise a glass, sing an Irish song and remember the leprechaun with fondness and a smile on your face.
