Richard Harris, age 65, formerly of Birmingham, AL, made his earthly transition on Saturday, August 18, 2012. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Harris was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army in 1994 after 26 years of service. He retired earlier this year, after 17 years of service, from the Mississippi Department of Human Services where he served as Deputy Administrator of Administration. He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from now Tuskegee University. He was an active member and Sunday School teacher at New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson. Surviving are his wife, Mary Jean Harris; daughter, 1 LT Camille Harris; two brothers, retired LTC Grant (Mae Linda) Harris of Jonesboro, GA, & Edmond (Valerie) Harris of Birmingham; four sisters, Mary Williams of Detroit, Charlena H. Bray of Birmingham, Betty (Thomas) Brown of Huntsville, & Sandra Harris of Birmingham.
