Richard Lee Griffin was born February 5, 1943, in Gary, Indiana. He moved to Cocoa with his parents, Lowell and Marge, and his brother Jim in 1955. He graduated from Cocoa High School and Brevard Community College. He attended Florida State University before being drafted into the US Army, and graduated from Cameron State University while serving. He always remained a true Seminole fan and also rooted for the University of Tennessee (provided they were not playing FSU). Richard sold real estate and life insurance before being hired by Martin Marietta in Orlando. As a weapons systems instructor, he was often deployed with troops around the US and even spent time in Germany and Kuwait.
Richard and Sandra were married for 50 years. Their daughter Dawn and her husband Larry Smith, have two children, Griffin (15) and Marlee (13). Their son Todd and his wife Rochelle have 3 children, Samantha (15), Nolan (12) and Abby (6). Richard’s grandchildren were the light of his life.
Richard was a truly beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle and friend. His sudden, unexpected, and premature passing has left a huge void in our lives and in our hearts. He will be truly missed.
