Richard G. Capel II, age 68, of Salem, died Tuesday night, August 20, 2013 at the Salem Community Hospital following a brave fight with cancer. He was born June 8, 1945 in Salem, the son of Richard George and Martha H. (Layden) Capel Mr. Capel was a 1964 Salem High School graduate and attended Youngstown State University for 2 years. He had worked at the A&P in Salem, A&P Warehouse, U.S.D.A. as an inspector and Salem Blanking. Richard was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Independent Hose Club, Italian American Club, Salem AMVETS Post #45 and the VFW in Washingtonville. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. His wife, Janelle (Whitehead) Capel, whom he married March 8, 1997, survives him along with a son, Richard (Adrienne) Capel III of Salem; stepson, Brian McCaslin of Boardman; two daughters, Shawna (Heath) Oller of Salem and Cindy (Tim) White of Clinton, Ohio; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His father, Richard George Capel I preceded him in death in 2002.
