Richard Fordham Thirkill

Richard Fordham Thirkill, 87, passed away on May 26, 2019. With his family at his side.  He was born Nov. 13, 1932, to Edwin and Roberta Thirkill. He married his high school sweetheart on Aug. 14, 1953, later to be solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Richard was a very kind, intelligent man, who was very loving and caring.  He especially loved his grandchildren.  He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved fishing, making his boys fish behind him so they didn’t fish out the holes.

Richard served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and Vietnam.  He retired after 20 years and then worked for ATK.  Shortly afterwards he and his wife, Hilma owned and operated R&H Ceramics, where they made many friends all over the U.S.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,  serving as a High Priest, diligent Home Teacher, Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Sunday School Superintendent, and Young Men’s President.

Richard is survived by his wife Hilma, of 66 years, 3 sons, Wes Thirkill (Lu
Ann), Greg Thirkill, and Rodney Thirkill (Leana), daughter, Susan Hoss, (Neal), 19 grandchildren, and 47 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob, and grandson Eric.

The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice, especially Taylor, Marianne, Daniela, and Dr. Lewis.

Richard has gone fishing!
