Richard Herbert Fine, 79, Died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, Carol (Friedman) Fine; his son Cantor Geoffrey Fine and his husband, Dr. Joel Hencken; his daughter Debbie (Fine) Whittaker and her husband, Courtney Whittaker, and their son Shane, and many close friends and family.
Richard grew up in Barrie, Ontario. He met his wife Carol in high school at a Jewish Youth group event. After he graduated from Michigan State, the two were married that June, 1958. They then moved to Boston where Carol finished her studies and he worked for a year. Soon after, he began his career in the Navy and earned the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He served aboard the USS Palm Beach in the field of cryptology.
Later, he studied law and received his Juris Doctorate from Catholic University. Due to his incredible integrity, ethics, and high principles, he was accorded the rights and privileges to appear before the Supreme Court.
Still later in his career, he worked at both the Pentagon and for 37 years, at the National Security Agency where he earned accolades, promotions, and awards. Finally, before retiring to Rockledge, FL, he acted as an Administrative Law Judge, where none of his cases were ever overturned.
Richard loved golf, swimming, ice hockey (both playing and watching), the beach, racquetball, and watching his grandson play baseball.
