Richard Eugene “Dick” Davis, Jr., 59, of Galesburg, died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

Dick was born September 1, 1956 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Richard E. and Marjorie Lou Moore Davis, Sr.

Dick proudly served the United States in the Marine Corp. He married Bonnie Kay Waller on September 17, 1977 in Galesburg.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Bonnie of Galesburg; one son, Tim (Melissa) Davis of Moline; two daughters, Jessica Custer and Katie Davis both of Galesburg; four brothers, Rick Wixom of Burlington, Bob Wixom of Iowa, Scott (Jennifer) Wixom of Iowa and Eric (Wendy) Wixom of Burlington, IA; three sisters, Penny Lopez of Galesburg, Pam Sundquist and Terri Davis both of Burlington, IA; and five grandchildren, Tiana Jenkins, Trenton Davis, Hannah, Lexie and Nathan Custer.

Dick is also survived by his mother in law, Phyllis Waller of Galesburg, a grandfather, Floyd John of Burlington, Iowa; two sisters in law, Diane Davis of Monmouth, and Sherry McCoy of Palatine; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. (Dorothy) Davis, Sr., and Marjorie Wixom; a brother, Tim Davis; a sister, Dottie Davis; his father in law, John Waller; a brother in law, Richard “Walley” Waller; and a nephew, Joseph Davis.

Dick worked for Jefferson-Smurfitt in Galesburg for 27 years, retiring in 2005.

Dick loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, camping, walking his beloved dogs, and sitting on the back porch, and watching sunsets. He also enjoyed going to yard sales and having his family over for meals.

Dick never met a stranger. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Dick always had popsicles in the freezer for his grandchildren.
