Richard “Dick” William Bell, age 69, of Rensselaer passed away Monday, January 16, 2017, at the emergency room at Franciscan Health Rensselaer. Dick was born in Old Sante Fe, Indiana on November 8, 1947, the son of George Henry and Margaret L. (Raske) Bell. Dick lived in Rensselaer for 53 years, working as a mechanic for 44 years at Sealy Spring Corporation.
He always had a “handy man” project going whether for himself, friends or family. He enjoyed birdwatching, and time outdoors doing yard work and gardening. Dick was affiliated with the Catholic faith and a member of the United Furniture Workers of America. On August 17, 1968, in Parr, Indiana Dick and Cheryl “Sherri” Mason were married and recently celebrated 48 years of marriage.
Dick is survived by his loving family, wife Sherri of Rensselaer, son William Joseph “Billy” Bell of Wilmington, NC, daughter Colleen (husband Clint) Bell-Carter of Indianapolis, grandsons Josh Eric Bell and Zachary Carter and two sisters, Shirley Wilcox-Lee of Brook, Indiana and Barbara (Earl) Biggs of Leesburg, Alabama. Dick was preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret and a brother, Everett “Sonny” Bell.
