Richard “Dick” Waddell, 84, died on July 7th at his home in Fairfield, CT, after a courageous battle with multiple system atrophy.

A lifelong resident of the Bridgeport/Fairfield area, Richard was born on February 26, 1937 in Fairfield, PA to Charles Dosch Waddell and Marqurite Hamilton Waddell. The family moved to Bridgeport in 1945. Dick attended Central High School in Bridgeport and later enlisted in the army. He was stationed in Germany and served two years from 1959 to 1961 before returning to Bridgeport where he worked as an independent building contractor for more than 50 years. In 1965 he married Carol Bridges, also of Bridgeport. They raised five children. They lived in Black Rock, and later moved to Fairfield. After their children were grown, Richard and Carol divorced. Dick was an avid and talented ballroom dancer and opera-lover and spent many weekends with likeminded friends following their passion at various venues in Connecticut and New York.

He is survived by his former wife, Carol Waddell, four daughters; Carol Bridges Marrone(Vincent Marrone), Erika Sisk (Michael Sisk), Elka Waddell and Tyler Waddell, a son, Garrett Waddell (Maura Hennessey), and six grandchildren. His is also survived by his brother, Robert Waddell of Florida, and sister, Dorothy Boatright, of California, as well as many nieces and nephews.
