Richard L. “Dick” Scher, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at Parkview Randallia Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Scher was born on February 20, 1948, in Huntington, IN, to Marcellus P and Jane R. (Kline) Scher. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Scher married Clare Ann Schnitz on September 18, 1987. She survives and resides in Huntington, IN.
Mr. Scher graduated from Huntington High School in 1966 and attended International Business College and Ivy Tech. Dick retired from the United State Air Force after 35 years of service. Dick worked for 33 years in Fort Wayne Air Guard with the 163rd fighter squadron. He then worked at Grissom in Peru with the 434th air refueling wing. Dick also worked as a bartender at the Show Lounge in Huntington and also at Lutheran Hospital and St. Francis University in security. He most recently helped with parking cars for funerals at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home.
Mr. Scher was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN, Parkview Huntington YMCA, 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #1014, American Legion #160, VFW Post #2689, and the Masonic Lodge Post 483. Mr. Scher has been a lifelong resident of Huntington County.
He is survived by his wife, Clare Ann; one step-daughter, Lisa (Brent) Louthan, Roanoke, IN; one brother, James D. Scher, Huntington; one sister, Helen C. McGoughlin, Fort Wayne, IN; two nephews, Justin (Danielle) Scher, Auburn, IN, Joel (Brooke) Scher, Marion, IN; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
