Richard Joseph (Dick) Cabral was born on September 15, 1944 in Patterson, CA. He passed away at the age of 78 on September 24, 2022 at his home in Bliss, ID.

Dick grew up in Newman, CA. He graduated from Orestimba High School and went on to Modesto Junior College before attending Fresno State University.

Dick was first and foremost a cattle rancher. He loved the business and ranched in Newman, Sprague River, OR and finally Bieber, CA. Between the cattle ranches at Sprague River and Bieber, Dick had a horse ranch in Barboursville, Virginia. When he retired from business he settled in Ennis, MT before ultimately landing in Bliss, ID.

Dick’s “hobbies” were his horses and his airplane, both of which fit right in with the cattle industry. His flights checking cattle, flying to Mexico for fishing trips, and cross-country flights were legendary. He loved his horses and he loved flying.  Everyone who knew Dick has a story about one or the other.

Dick was the son of Joe and Frances Cabral of Newman, California, who both preceded him in death.

Dick is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joni Allen Cabral of Bliss, ID.; daughter Jenny Cabral of Alturas, CA.; step-daughter Mandi Hodges of Ennis, MT.; step-son Joseph Smith of Santa Clara, CA.; sister Aileen Siegel (Bob) of Surprise, AZ.; sister Patty Hollander (Alex) of Newman, Ca.; niece Lisa Foulger of Costa Rica; niece Noel Momsen of New York, NY.; niece Lyndsey Bott of Scottsdale, AZ.; nephew Jason Siegel of Scottsdale, AZ.; and nephew Shea Bettencourt of Providence, UT. He is also survived by two step-grandchildren, five great-nieces and six great-nephews.

The family recommends remembrances be made to

The Orestimba Scholarship Community Association (TOSCA).
