Beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather, Richard “Dick” Hignite, 83, of Greenwood, IN, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. After his discharge from the Navy, Dick met his wife of 62 years, Mary (Whaling) Hignite; shortly after they met, they married on April 30, 1960.

He spent many years in the automotive industry selling cars and recreational vehicles.

He enjoyed spending time with his family at the “Hignite Hoedowns” where he would play guitar with his father, brothers, and friends and enjoy the company. Dick was an avid baseball fan, often enjoying Indians games, most importantly, his beloved team – The Boston Red Sox. He spent many years involved in the Greenwood Little League, even serving as the President in the 1970’s. If you were to ask him – his favorite sporting events to attend involved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.

Dick is survived by his wife Mary (Whaling) Hignite, and his six children, Keith (Linda) Brownlee, Christopher (Tammy) Brownlee, Pat (Luci) Brownlee, Diane Brownlee, Scott (Christal) Hignite, and Mindy Hignite. Along with his brother Russell Hignight and sister Sandy White, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Russell R. Hignight and Grace (Decker) Bass, brothers Douglas Hignite, Dennis Hignite, Charles Bass, sister Jeannette Hignight, and son Lance Brownlee.
