Richard E. “Dick” Spangle, 80, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday evening, April 18, 2013, at Warsaw Meadows Care Center. Dick was born on July 7, 1932, in Elkhart to the late Richard C. and Margaret E. (Signs) Spangle.
In addition to his parents, a sister, Gloria Oswald, preceded him in death.
On June 27, 1952, he married Phyllis L. Stickle in Jimtown.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Phyllis; sons Rick (Joyce) Spangle of Phoenix, Tim Spangle of South Bend, and Steve Spangle of Mishawaka; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Dick worked for the Indiana Toll Road Commission for 35 years. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Dick was a Concord High School graduate. He enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, and making pop can airplanes.
