Richard E. “Dick” Byrket, 91, of Elkhart, passed away from natural causes in his home at 7:56 a.m. Sunday, April 6.

He was born April 23, 1922, in Garrett to the late Raymond and Stella (Loutzenhiser) Byrket.

On Feb. 2, 1951, he married Anna Dickison in Syracuse. She preceded him in death in 2006.

Also preceding Dick in death were his brothers, Darrel and Lawrence Byrket, his sister, Deloris Byrket and a daughter, Jane Byrket.

Surviving are his children, Jeff (Jill) Byrket and Jennifer (Dennis) Chamberlain, both of Elkhart; a sister, Marilyn (Kenneth) Lorenz of Wyoming, Mich.; brother Robert (Carol) Byrket of Wakarusa; granddaughters Nicole (Steven) Graves of Elkhart and Erin (Douglas) Burggraf of Granger; and great-grandchildren Summer, Savanna and Scout Graves and Claire Ann Burggraf.

Following high school, Dick served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in Europe and in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war he worked as a diesel mechanic for many years, starting at Days Transfer of Elkhart where he worked for 18 years. He then went on to Preston Trucking in South Bend for another seven years, retiring in 1978. He was also an avid golfer.
