Richard Daniel “Dick” Mackey, 92, of South Bend, and formerly of Granger and Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Southfield Village, South Bend. He was born on December 3, 1928 in Chicago, to the late Herbert Michael and Lena Mae (Limbach) Mackey. On May 16, 1953 in Monroe, Michigan, he married the former Mary Ann Bennett. Mary Ann passed away on February 14, 2010 after 56 years of marriage. Surviving is a son Daniel (Sarah) Mackey; four daughters Carol (Kim) Hochstetler, Marcia Mackey, Patty Jo Mackey and Kathleen (Randy) Styborski; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren survive as well.

Dick worked in the finance and accounting arena his whole career.  He retired from Lakeland Financial Corporation (Lake City Bank) in 1994, where he served as Senior Vice President and Controller since 1982. He began his career as a CPA with Arthur Anderson & Co. in Detroit from 1951 until 1954, joined City Bank & Trust Company in Jackson, MI as an auditor from 1954 until 1964 and then moved to Elkhart where he worked for St. Joseph Valley Bank as Vice President and Controller from 1964 to 1982.

Dick was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Bristol and was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Michigan, earned his M.B.A. in 1951 and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi.  He was an active member of many organizations, including, Alumni Club of the University of Michigan, Bank Administration Institute, Management Accounting Association, Financial Executive Institute and the Indiana Society of Certified Public Accountants. Dick enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, music and theater, but most of all he treasured the visits and enduring support from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
