Richard “Dick” C. Schnake, 85 of Hoyleton, passed away at Good Samartain Hospital in Mt. Vernon July 16,2013.

Richard was born July 19, 1927, son of Arthur and Katie (Whittenburg) Schnake. He Married Imogene (Bierman) Schnake on July 4,1948 in Irvington and she survives in Hoyelton.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Randy Schnake and wife Angela of Irvington. Five grandchildren Travis Niederhofer and special friend Stephanie House of Hoyelton; Lucas Schnake and special friend Veronica Wright of St. Louis; Adam Niederhofer and special friend Alya Thorp of Collinsville; Derrick Schnake of Irvington; Abby Schnake and Fiancé Chris Headrick of Lincoln. Two Brothers Melvin Schnake and wife Betty of Carrollton, Georgia and Lester Schnake and wife Shirley of Leonard Town, Maryland and many nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents Mr. Schnake was preceded in death by a daughter Vickie (Schnake) Niederhofer, a brother Howard Schnake and a sister Madeline Wayham.Mr. Schnake graduated from Centralia High School and Centralia Jr. College. He Served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S Diamond Head from 1945 – 1946. Upon Returning from the navy he co-owned and operated the Tiny Diner in Centralia until 1952.In 1952 He purchased the current family farm which he worked until retirement.

He along with his brother Howard Schnake ran and operated Schnake Brothers Excavating which has remained in business for 60 years.Mr. Schnake served on School boards, church boards and was a Tri-County Electric Coop Director for several years.Earlier in life he loved working with horses and was always an avid bird hunter. His family, friends and business clients will always remember his laugh, smile, honesty, integrity and positive outlook on life.
