RICHARD DEAN “DICK” FARLEY, 90
LAKELAND – Richard Dean Farley, 90, passed away due to heart failure on Friday, July 18, 2014.
Dick was born October 23, 1923, to Simon and Gertrude Farely in Boone, Iowa. Graduated Boone High School in 1942. Dick was the Iowa State Doubles tennis champion. During WWII, Dick served in the Air Force in Capri, Italy, loading bombs on B24’s.
In 1948, Dick married Marty McMichael and they had 5 children. Dick managed the north side store of Boyd’s Dairy in Boone, Iowa, from 1952 to 1978. He and Jim Boyd created “bubble gum” ice cream in the early 1960s.
In 1994, Dick retired to Lakeland, Fl, where he met and fell in love with Martha Bittner, they were married in 2001.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, brother (Bob Farley) and his wife Marty.
He is survived by his wife Martha, sons Steve Farley of Lakewood, CO, Jim (Linda) Farley of Minnetonka, MN, daughters Teri (Karl) Wagner of Greeley, CO, Janaan (Jim) Hubbard of Victoria, MN and Marcia (Spike) Davis of Phoenix, AZ, 9 grand-children and 3 great grandchildren.
