Mr. Kirkman served in the Army and the National Guard.
He was employed at General Motors, Delco Battery and Guide Lamp, for thirty-eight years prior to his retirement in 2003.
He was a member of the Maplewood Golf Club, and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn (Billings) Kirkman, to whom he had been married thirty two years; two sons, Richard Todd Kirkman, (wife, Deborah), Muncie, and Michael Wray, (wife, Angela), Greenwood; his daughter, Dondi Wray, Ellettsville; six grandchildren, Jared Bright, Haleigh Hite, Jacob Hagen, Kirsten Hagen, Jonathan Wray and Matthew Wray; his sister, Maralyn Bartlett, Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie “Red” Kirkman; his mother, Iris Marie (Stewart) Kirkman; two brothers, Robert Kirkman and William Kirkman; and his sister, Janice Ellison.
