Richard D. Mueller, 70, of Fortville, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis.

He was born May 26, 1944, in Anderson, IN to the late Ben and Betty (Brammer) Mueller.

Richard was a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Fortville American Legion Post 391. He graduated from Hancock Central High School, received his undergraduate degree from Morris Harvey College (now the University of Charleston, WVa.) and his master’s degree in education from Ball State University. Richard taught Biology at New Palestine High School and was active in the 4-H and FFA programs early in his career. He also headed an entomology club that won New Palestine’s first state championship. After his teaching career, Richard owned a business importing soapstone and later followed his passion for the outdoors by working at Fun Time Campers in Lawrence as a salesman. He was an avid outdoor enthusiast, enjoyed gardening, and butterflies and was a devoted grandfather.

Richard is survived by sons Drew (Wendy) Mueller of Fishers and Matt (Rebecca) Mueller of Greenfield; grandchildren: Katie, Ben, Michael and Abby Mueller; and sisters: Cheryle (John) Daunhauer of Holland, IN and Mischelle (Lou) Ferrell of Sparta, TN.

He was preceded in death by his wife June “Button” Mueller in June of this year and his beloved “Sadiedog”.
