Richard D. Lewis, 56, of New Buffalo, Michigan passed away Wednesday morning, January 4, 2006 at Lakeland Hospital, St. Joseph, Michigan.
Richard was born January 14, 1949 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Donald and Marjorie (Schrader) Lewis. He was self-employed as a mason, and, since 1994 was a partner with his son, Rich, in their business, Rich and Rich Masonry. His beagle, Rufus, was a constant companion and Mascot, riding in the truck to job sites.
Richard was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Edward Sexton Post # 169, New Buffalo and the National Rifle Association. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and spending time with his friends. Richard adored his grandchildren.
Richard’s mother and father preceded him in death. His wife, Janet Lewis, preceded him in death on September 20, 1998.
Survivors include his loving companion, Sue Mayfield of New Buffalo; children, Richard K. Lewis (Tracy Bodie), Three Oaks, Michigan; Trisha (Carl) Ott, Lawrenceville, Georgia; Dawn (J.J.) Justice of Winder, Georgia, step son, Jason Turley of LaPorte, Indiana; grandchildren, Richard C. Lewis, Megan Ott, Emily Ott and Sierra Justice; his brother, James Lewis, Heston, Indiana; many nieces and nephews, beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
