Richard D. “Rick” Hunziker, 78, of McCordsville, formerly of Bradenton, FL, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at Community Hospital North. He was born March 6, 1944, in Berwyn, IL to Otto Hunziker, Jr. and Mary (Alexander) Hunziker.

Rick was a 1966 Purdue University graduate receiving his degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Reamer Club where he was a driver of the Boilermaker Special. Rick served in the U.S. Air Force for 6 ½ years during the Vietnam Era. He later went to work as a civilian employee at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH where he retired in 1999 as the Chief of Electro-Optic Sensors Division.  After his retirement he continued consulting in the same field until 2017.

Rick was a member of Outlook Christian Church in McCordsville but prior to that he was very active in Woodland Community Church in Bradenton, FL as well as their local community. Rick also was active in the Purdue Alumni Club in Sarasota, FL serving as President for 6 years and the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.

Rick loved fishing, was a world traveler, and wrote a book “Heartland Raising: Memoirs of an “Average” Kid”.

Rick was a proud husband, father and grandfather who loved his family and enjoyed the time he was able to spend with them.

Rick is survived by his wife Susan (Dohner) Hunziker whom he married February 25, 1967; sons: Eric (Kellie) Hunziker of Cincinnati, OH and Kirk (Jennifer) Hunziker of McCordsville, IN; grandchildren: Megan, Emily, Lauren, Dakota, Kiley and Cooper Hunziker; brother Roger F. (Sybil) Hunziker of Lake City, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
