Richard “Dick” Duane Poe, 88, of Fishers, IN, passed away peacefully September 27, 2022. He was born on January 2, 1934, in Shelbyville, IN, to Amile and Pauline (Dodds) Poe.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of Shelbyville High School and served in the United States Army. He retired as a Sergeant from the Indiana State Police after 21 years, serving as Public Information Officer for 10 years, served as the Chief of Police for the Fortville Police Department for 17 years, and worked part time at Broadway Hardware for 25 years. Dick was a member of Cyntheanne Christian Church and was on the Choir Director for several churches: Fayetteville NC Baptist Church, Mt. Auburn UMC, Eden UMC, and Fortville UMC. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Association, the Greenfield American Legion Post 119, Fortville F&AM Lodge 207, and the Eden OES Chapter 101. He enjoyed building RC Model Airplanes, listening to gospel and classical music, and going country western dancing. Dick could fix anything and everything.
Dick is survived by his wife Marlene (Cochard) Poe whom he married on April 3, 1982. He is also survived by his children Ellen (Dennis) McKay of Fishers, Kevin (Susie) Poe of Indianapolis, Tim (Lola) Poe of Greenwood, Laura (Steve) Smith of Burleson, TX, Amy Poe of Greenwood, Emily Rose of Whiteland, and Collin (Jen) Poe of Martinsville; grandchildren Richard McKay, Adrienne (Bryan) Clark, Andrew (Angel) Poe, Adam Poe, Alyson (Patrick) Murphy, Aron (Jasmine) Poe, Shari (Rik) Gross, Carrie Poe, Breanne (Jody) Bridges, Felicia Rose, Tim Rose, and Jerry Rose; 18 great-grandchildren; and brother Norman (Kay) Poe of Columbus. He is preceded in death by his parents named above as well as daughter-in-law Sherry Poe and son-in-law Larry Rose.
