Richard E. Chapman, 73, of Plainville, beloved husband of Marcia (Abbott) Chapman, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 10, 2011.

Richard was born in Portland, Maine on September 11, 1937, one of thirteen children to the late Norris and Thelma (Murray) Chapman.  Upon his marriage to the love of his life and best friend, Marcia, they relocated to Connecticut where they shared 53 years of marriage and raised their family.  Richard had a love for woodworking from young age as a tree surgeon, and once moving to Connecticut, spent more than 20 years in the construction industry, retiring as a foreman from FIP in 1993.  He continued his carpentry talents after retirement as he built cabinets, decks, and many other furnishings for his family.  An outdoors enthusiast, he took great pride in maintaining his property, enjoyed hunting, camping, and many cross country RV trips with his family, as well as trips back to his home state of Maine to their cottage on Westport Island.  More recently, he spent time at Day Break in Farmington and the Plainville Senior Center where he discovered his fondness for ceramics.  A proud husband, father, and grandfather, Richard centered his life around his family, leaving them with many cherished memories.

In addition to his wife, Marcia, he leaves his children, David and his wife, Andrea of Plainville and Brenda Stratton of Terryville; his grandchildren, Zachary, Jared, David and Alijah; his brothers, John, Paul, Charlie, Bruce, Carroll, and Daniel; his sisters, Joyce Morton and Gloria James; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Norris, Jr., and his sisters, Elinor Collins and Phyllis Hall.
