Richard C. Johnson, 65, of Bristol, formerly of Southington, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, surrounded by his family.
Richard was born in Waterbury on May 9, 1947, one of two children to the late George P. and Adahlia (Krampitz) Johnson. Raised in Terryville, he attended local schools, and graduated from Goodwin Technical Institute. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after, proudly serving his country during Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon his return, he began his career as an operating engineer and heavy equipment operator, was a longtime member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 478 and until recently, was employed for Griffin dewatering in Bolton. He and his wife Krystyna shared over 38 years together, residing in Southington where they raised their two children, and relocated to Bristol two years ago. One of Richard’s many passions was for the game of golf, sharing trips with his wife to courses throughout New England, going on his annual guy’s trip to Myrtle Beach, and playing on area leagues, including Pine Valley where he prided himself in getting a hole in one. He had a fondness for Vermont where he frequently went skiing, and enjoyed taking trips to Sebago Lake. Richard took great pride in his home where he was an expert handyman and jack of all trades, always making home improvements.
In addition to his wife, Krystyna, he leaves his son, Ryan Craig Johnson, his daughter, Marsi May Johnson; his grandson, Ian Xavie Johnson; his sister, Janet Bailey and her husband, Larry; his mother-in-law, Irene Rameda; his brother-in-law, John Rameda; and his nephew, David Bailey, all who will miss him dearly.
