Richard B. “Dick” Peck, 78, of Anderson, died May 14, 2009 after an extended illness. He was born December 22, 1930 in Anderson, Indiana and was a lifelong Anderson resident. Dick was a 1948 graduate of Anderson High School where he played basketball and golf for the Indians from 1946-1948. He was selected to be a member of the 1948 Indiana All Star Basketball team.

He received an athletic scholarship to play basketball at Kansas State University. While at K.S.U. he lettered in basketball and golf, and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He graduated in 1953. After college, he married and then he served his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Air Force from 1953 through 1955. He returned to Anderson and began his insurance career.

He retired in 1996 from the Peck & Wood Insurance Agency after 40 years of service. Dick was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served on all boards. He was also was a member of the YMCA and was the Chairman of the Board of Directors, was a member of the Y-Men’s Club, Anderson Noon Exchange Club, and Edgewood Country Club where he served on their board. He was a member of the Anderson-Madison County Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce as a young man. Dick was actively involved in the City of Anderson where he served on the City of Anderson Park Board for 10 years.

He loved his family and the many vacations taken together. He loved boating, golfing, and watching his children and grandchildren in all of their sports and activities.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years whom he married January 25, 1953, Betsy Baker Peck; children, Richard B. and Cindy Lash Peck, Jr. of Anderson, Jim and Karen Wieser Peck of Indianapolis; and Jane E. Peck and husband Terry Freeman of Anderson and brother, Victor O. and wife Mary Kay Griffith Peck of Carmel; six grandchildren, Vivienne Peck and husband Ben Ross of Greenwood, Jennifer Freeman & husband Patrick Sheets of Chicago, Lindsey Freeman & husband Jonathan Frazier of Nashville, Tennessee, Taryn Peck and Gina Peck, both of Fishers, and Patrick Freeman of Anderson; two great grandchildren Oscar B. Ross of Greenwood and Abram L. Sheets of Chicago; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Erle P. & Carmela Orland Peck and several aunts and uncles.
