What we think, creates the world around us. It’s all about energy, interconnectivity and the words of Jesus. What we do for ourselves dies with us. But, what we do for others is and remains immortal. Richard B. “Dick” Craft held his faith dear connecting his community and his family in his wonderful word of life. He found joy in the solitude and reflection of the bay, courage in the face of danger and on Thursday September 28th, 2017, after 89 years, Dick took his good deeds and found peace everlasting. Mr. Craft was born in Burlington and had been a lifetime resident.
He had contributed to the manpower of our nation serving in the U.S. Navy to uphold the ideals of our American freedoms aboard the U.S.S. Rochester (CA-124). Dick was a longtime volunteer and lifetime member of the Burlington Twp. Fire Department, Beverly Rd. Fire Co. station 302 where he served two terms as Chief and was a member of the Burlington Twp Relief, Burlington County Chiefs and NJ State Firemen’s Associations. Dick earned his undergraduate at the University of VA and graduated with a Masters in Education (M.ed) from Penn State.
Early in his career Dick had taught in Riverside and had spent 25 years teaching in Burlington Twp. where he founded the first Falcons soccer team and served as head coach. Chief Craft had worked as an Assistant Burlington County Fire Marshall and closed his career working for License and Inspections in Burlington Twp. before retiring. Dick loved to spend time on the bay fishing and clam digging and was an active congregant of the Broad St. United Methodist Church in Burlington where he was the Sunday School Administrator. Mr. Craft had also been a member of the Men’s Club of Burlington and the Burlington Lodge #32 F&AM.
Love doesn’t leave, people do. We’re always connected and never too far gone for a memory. Mr. Craft is survived by his loving wife Roberta (nee Rosenberger) Craft and is the father of Richard H. & his wife Cheryl and Randall M. & his wife Rosemary Craft. Dick is the proud grandfather of Kevin & his wife Allison, Karl & his wife Alexandria, Alison & her husband Doug DeGaetano, Devon Craft-Marquardt & her husband Jonathan and great grandfather of Eloise and Jane Craft. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister Doris Bramble.
