Richard Arthur Ching of Phoenix, AZ passed away on August 21,2021.
Rich was born in Bailey, MI to Vernon Ching and Emily Swift and was the youngest of
three children. He grew up in Bailey and graduated from Grant High School. After
graduating Rich enlisted in the Army where he served as an MP. Rich later earned an
Associate Degree from Davenport and a Bachelors of Science in Business
Management from St. Thomas Aquinas College. Rich worked at newspapers in
Michigan and Arizona as the controller. He retired from The Daily News Sun in Sun City,
AZ in 1999.
Falling in love for the first time, Rich married Nancy Anderson in June of 1967. They
had three great children together. Rich and Nancy divorced in 1984. In July of 1994
Rich then married his beautiful wife Martha Miles and with open arms he loved Martha’s
children as his own.
vacationing with his grandkids. “Ching” will be remembered for his stories and his quick
wit. He was very kind and generous, everyone was family.
Richard is survived by Martha, his loving wife of 27 years, sisters Alice Angus of North
Carolina and Lavern (Maurice) Jorgensen of Bailey MI. His children Brian (Chris) Ching
of Phoenix, AZ, Duane (April) Ching of Wyoming, MI. Kristen (Steve) Simon of
Westminster, CO. Angie Rae (David) Rodriguez of Boulder Creek, CA. and Jonathan
(Stacey) Miles of Peoria, AZ. Rich was affectionately referred to as “Pappy” by his
grandchildren. Bradley (Victoria) Ching, Richard Ching, Alison Ching, James Ching,
Amber Ching, Jackie Ching, Gabriel Simon, Jonathan Ching, Bailey Simon and Evan
Miles. Rich was also blessed and thrilled to be a Great Grandfather to Kenadee,
Kadance and Wesley Ching.
