Richard (Dick) Arlen Malmstrom passed away of natural causes on September 11, 2015 at St. Luke’s in Meridian, Idaho surrounded by his loving wife Marilyn and children.
Richard was born in Boise, Idaho on October 12, 1934 to Gilbert and Martha Sams Malmstrom, the second of 3 children. He attended Boise High School, received an Associates Business Degree from Boise Junior College in 1956, and graduated from Pacific Coast Banking School in 1968.
He married the love of his life Marilyn Hurst Malmstrom in 1955 and raised 4 wonderful children.
Dick was in ROTC in high school and served in the Air National Guard. He was awarded “Airman of the Year” in 1957 and “Outstanding Airman of the Year” in 1958. He was President of the Boise Kiwanis in 1967.
Dick was a professional banker at Idaho First National Bank beginning in 1953 working part-time as a bank messenger while attending Boise Junior College. He retired from the bank in 1993 as Vice President. After retiring from the bank, he started Pioneer Title Finance in 2002 and worked with that company as a partner up until his death.
Dick was an avid fisherman and fished for steelhead out of Riggins, deep sea fishing in Alaska, Mexico, and Hawaii, and locally at Brownlee and Magic reservoirs. He enjoyed golf and participated in many tournaments at Blue Lakes and Crane Creek Country Clubs and loved the 19th hole. He was a league bowler and once bowled a perfect game. Dick loved to cook and feed folks – he was the quintessential Italian grandmother – and many of us were the lucky recipients of his famous pies and butter toffee.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Marilyn; his children, Shelley (Randy) Berry, Jeff (Suzanne) Malmstrom, Scott (Bonnie) Malmstrom, Suzette (Brad) Ginther, 8 grandchildren,1 great grandchild, his brother Charles (Treva) Malmstrom, his sister Edna Mae, 5 nieces and 1 nephew.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care Dick received at St Luke’s in Meridian and for the special relationship Dick had with the exceptional nurses in ICU.
