DURHAM- Mr. Richard “Dick” Allen McKown, 74, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. McKown was born February 24, 1943 in Denver, CO. He loved and served his Lord and Savior and was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd for 30 years. He led the mission team for over 20 years, directed an ESL Ministry, and also taught a Sunday School class for first graders. Dick worked at Durham Technical Community College as a Civil Engineer for 13 years. He also worked in Saudi Arabia, Holland and other countries. Dick loved to travel and was an avid runner. He was a member of The Gideons International for over 30 years and also served on the Board of CEF “Child Evangelism Fellowship” for many years. Dick proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Mr. McKown is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dolly McKown.
Mr. McKown is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan J. McKown; daughter, Tracy Padgett (Joel), Sarah McWhorter (Paul); son, James McKown; brother, Robert “Bob” McKown (Marie); grandchildren, Jonas Padgett, Jace Padgett, Jake Padgett, Risa McWhorter, Ellie McWhorter, and other loving family members and friends.
