Richard “Dick” Allen Schmelzle, 79, of Freeport, passed away, Sunday, May 24, 2015, at his home. Born August 12, 1935, in Freeport he was the son of Albert and Edna (Meier) Schmelzle.
He married Sally Anne Willis May 19, 1956.Dick worked at the Journal-Standard, Micro Switch, 18 years at Freeport Dye Works, Oak Brand Dairy, and retired from Danfoss. He loved his family. Dick enjoyed, motorcycling, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, his horses, and most of all his Lionel Trains. His memberships included Lifetime members of Freeport Elks Lodge and member Freeport Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving is his wife, Sally of Freeport; his son, Randy of Freeport; his daughters-in-law, Lisa Vanbrocklin of Florida and Julia Kaye Schmelzle of Freeport; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Kayla Hagen) Schmelzle, Miranda Schmelzle, and Savannah Schmelzle; 3 great-grandchildren, Zoie, Kaylee and Nathan Schmelzle, his beloved dogs, Misty, Jewel, Ruby, and Sassie; and his very good friends, Bob Jury and Bert Brinkmeier of Freeport.He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane Lynn Schmelzle; his sister, Doris Schumacher; and his nephew, David Schumacher.
